Dedication
...and you can get an idea of what I witnessed the other day.
I was driving home from work and I saw the cross country team for a local high school jogging down the road. Amongst the body fat deprived pack of post adolescents was one young lady that stood out to me. I was immediately impressed by this girl. She stood out not because of her athletic prowess, though I am sure she has some, but because of her choice of garb. While her teammates wore their standard tanktops and super short shorts, she was dressed from head to toe, literally, head covering included.
This young lady was so dedicated to both her sport and her culture, she was willing endure the potential ridicule, and the sweltering heat. Just to note, this was your average ninety degree summer afternoon; not really the type of day you would break out the sweat pants and long sleeves for a jog.
This is the kind of thing that can easily draw a "that's stupid", or a "what was she thinking", but while I do not claim to agree with, nor understand, all aspects of the Arab culture, I can respect someone who can stick by their traditions even when they do not fit the mold of normal.
So, I say big ups to you, young lady. I applaud your dedication.
