Mmm... Beer

Friday night, we felt like having a beer, but we didn't have any in the house. Kim had even went as far as to put beer on the grocery list. I'm sure this isn't anything new for a lot of you, but around our house, I'm usually the one who buys the beer. So, when my wife adds beer to her list, that's a day worth noting. In my mind, that's a good day or in her case, it could mean that it was a really bad day. Having a kid can drive you to drinking some days.

So, I go to the store to buy some beer and I decide to let Kim choose. She chooses her new favorite brew, which is Magic Hat #9. When I get to the store, I am surprised to find that they carry it. I went to the closest grocery store, which is not the kind of place you expect to find much in the way of a beer selection. At first, I was going to get a sixer1 of #9, but then I saw Pandoras Box. So, I picked that up instead.

I've been pleasantly surprised thus far. I have tried the Circus Boy unfiltered hefeweizen and the Spring '08 Odd Notion; both have been pleasing to the palette. I really dig their beer and their vibe. You should give them a try next time you are perusing the beer aisle at your local grocery mart.

Have you tried any beers of note lately? If not, you can just list your favorite beer.

  1. back I watched Dazed and Confused on Thursday night. A kid in the movie goes to the store to pick up some beer and calls it a "sixer". Awesome movie.

Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde... yum, yum! We tried it at Hi5 one night.. so far the only grocery store I've seen that carries it is Harris Teeter.

I'm not a big beer drinker, but wanted to not that Dazed and Confused is hands down my favorite movie of all time!

Sam, Beer is your friend and happy belated birthday.

"Okay guys, one more thing, this summer when you're being inundated with all this American bicentennial Fourth Of July brouhaha, don't forget what you're celebrating, and that's the fact that a bunch of slave-owning, aristocratic, white males didn't want to pay their taxes."

Red Oak for sure. Yuengling is a close and more readily available second since they don't bottle Red Oak.

Yeah, they really need to bottle Red Oak. That is another favorite of mine!

My faves are Bell's Kalamazoo Stout, Guiness and Old Rasputen (North Coast Brewing Company) Stout. I'm an Irish girl who loves her stouts. I've been on a 6.5 month hiatus from beer though so have one for me!!

Lisa, the harder part is having to still be on a hiatus after having the baby (if nursing)... Lately, I've been sneaking one in after Palmer goes to sleep. :)
