Are Garages for Cars?

In search of a few minutes of solitude, I am sitting in my garage. Since getting home from work, I have been on the go non-stop and I just needed a few minutes of quiet, but that is hard to come by in a house with two small children. I came into the garage to take off my shoes and realized how quiet it was in here. So, I decided to stay.

Recently, our garage has been taken over by donations to my non-profit, Dynamic Water. We're collecting "craigslist sellable" items and, well, selling them on craigslist in an online yard sale. NOTE: The picture above is not actually my garage.

Tonight, I have set up shop in a black leather chair that my sister donated when she moved. It is surprisingly comfortable. Honestly, I will probably come sit out here more, just because of this chair. I also remembered that we had a radio out here. So, I turned it on and am now listening to Jazz 90.7. I was in search of a classical station, but came across this. It's great.

Sitting here in the garage full of stuff has reminded me of the sermon Jeff gave a couple weeks ago, where he referenced the self storage industry and the absurdity of how much "stuff" the average American owns. It makes me wonder how many people are like me and have a garage, but don't use it to park their car.

So, if you have a garage, do you park your car in there? Also, how many cars are supposed to fit in there? And, if you don't currently park your car in there, have you ever and do you even want to?

Ready go.

I have a garage. I believe garages should house cars. But my garage is currently my husband's workshop. It will remain that way until he builds a workshop out back. And the state of my house now, there are other projects that will take place before I'll ever get to park my car in the garage.

I envy the cars I pass when they have no frost on them, ice, snow...or envy people who can get into their car without getting wet on a rainy day...wah...wah...wah!!!

I don't have a garage, but if I did, I doubt I would get my car into it. Cars don't need houses, they can handle outside weather. Garages should house kayaks, bicycles, motorcycles, tool benches, exercise equipment and poker tables. Of these things I only have a scooter myself, but I do wish I had a better place to keep my golf clubs and hockey equipment.

I would like to park in our garage but we have not parked in our garage at least since April. It is suppose to fit one car so it seems pretty small. Right now we use it to store Brayden's toys, diapers and extra things I buy at the grocery store on sale. Daniel just used it this week to build something. But I sweep it out regularly and try to organize it.

We have a one-car garage, and up until recently, we kept Steph's car in there.

In the past few months, we have been working hard to clean out the house and remove as much clutter as possible, especially from drawers and closets.

The result has been that our garage is just a little too crowded to get the car in and out right now.

Our next project will be to get much better attic access, and then we can move a lot of the garage stuff up there and have our garage again.

LONG term, we hope to make it my office so that we can have another room to grow our family!

PS - I can't post comments using the Name/URL option.

It allows me to try, but then it says, "Your comment could not be published."
